Swoyambhunath and Boudhanath are two of Nepal’s most significant Buddhist stupas, deeply rooted in history and spirituality. Swoyambhunath, dating back to at least the 5th century CE, is believed to have emerged as a self-existent flame from a lotus in a primordial lake, later drained by Bodhisattva Manjushri to create the Kathmandu Valley. Perched on a hill, it symbolizes enlightenment with Buddha’s all-seeing eyes. Boudhanath, one of the world's largest spherical stupas, was built around the 5th or 6th century CE during the Licchavi period. It is closely associated with Tibetan Buddhism and is believed to have been constructed by a devout woman who cleverly secured land from the king. Both stupas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and remain key centers of Buddhist pilgrimage and culture.

Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal. Believed to date back to the Licchavi period in the 5th century CE, with possible origins even earlier, the temple has long been a center of religious devotion. According to legend, Shiva once roamed the area as a deer before revealing himself as Pashupati, "Lord of the Animals," making the site sacred. The temple, rebuilt in the 17th century by King Bhupatindra Malla, features a distinctive two-tiered pagoda-style roof and houses a revered Shiva lingam, accessible only to Hindus. Pashupatinath is also a major cremation site, as it is believed that dying here ensures salvation. Today, it remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a focal point of Hindu worship, especially during Maha Shivaratri, when thousands of devotees gather to offer prayers.
