The 11-day upper Mustang jeep tour itinerary is really worth it for people who don’t have enough time to trek all the way to upper Mustang or don’t want to hike for many days but still want to explore Upper Mustang and visit other places in Nepal.
Upper Mustang lies in a rain shadow behind the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, bordering Dolpa district in the west and Tibet / China in the north. The main destination of the upper mustang trek is Lo Manthang, also known as the walled city.

Early March to the end of November is good for an upper mustang jeep tour. The monsoon during June – August doesn’t really affect the upper mustang jeep tour because the area is mostly dry even in the monsoon season.
The Upper Mustang special permit costs USD 50 per day and even solo trekkers can apply for a special permit through a registered trekking agency. anyway, The area is rich in Buddhist culture with a language and lifestyle that is quite similar to Tibetan. but, The king of Lo Manthang doesn't have any power now since Nepal became a federal democratic republic in 2008.

Upper mustang jeep tour cost is USD 1405 to 2630 per person, including private jeep during the tour, Kathmandu-Pokhara-Kathmandu flights, hotel in Kathmandu and Pokhara and normal nice twin bed room with attached bath during the tour, Mustang special permit, ACAP fee, an English speaking guide.

Itineraries

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu

A representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt. Ltd. will heartily welcome to you in Tribhuvan international (TIA) airport 1370 meter from sea level in any time of your arrival and help you transfer to hotel at Thamel. Kathmandu is capital city of Nepal and it is normally busy during the day. It is about 15-25 minutes’ drive from airport to Thamel. It depends on your arrival time and traffic. You might have some time to explore Thamel or visit some important place in Kathmandu city and final preparation for Trekking from next day.

Day 02

Kathmandu to Pokhara 820m

After breakfast in the hotel, visit Swoyambhu stupa and Baudha stupa (lunch at Baudha stupa), flight to Pokhara 825m around 3pm. Visit the lakeside area/short boating/free evening.

Day 3

Pokhara to Tatopani 1190m

After breakfast at the hotel, the Jeep drive from Pokhara to Tatopani (natural hot spring) at 1190m. Passing through Sarangkot view point for amazing views of Annapurna range and Pokhara valley, then continue enjoying the views and one of the longest suspension bridges in Baglung on the way to Tatopani.

Day 4

Tatopani to Kagbeni 2810m

Drive from Tatopani to Muktinath at 3780 meters to explore Muktinath temple, which is very popular for both Hindus and Buddhists. Then visit some monasteries, enjoy the view around us and, after lunch, drive down, continue to Kagbeni village 2810m for overnight (good day to acclimatise).

Day 5

Kagbeni to Swyangbuchen 3800m

From today we're entering to upper Mustang, where we need to check for our special permit to enter a restricted area. Then the drive starts from Kagbeni to Syangbuchen 3800m, passing through Chhusang – Tsaile – chungsi cave and enjoying the beautiful landscape of upper Mustang.

Day 6

Swyangbuchen to Tsarang 3560m

Drive from Syangbuchen to Tsarang village at 3560m. Passing through Ghami – Dhakmar and Ghar Gumba, one of the oldest monasteries in the area, enjoy the mountain view, colourful landscape. Explore Tsarang village, visit the monastery/palace in the afternoon.

Day 7

Tsarang to Lo Manthang 3810m

Drive from Tsarang to Lo Manthang at 3810 meters, leave your luggage and tea break in the hotel, then continue to Chhoser cave and 2 monasteries, then back to Lo manthang for lunch. Visit 3 monasteries in the afternoon and walk around the walled city/palace area/coffee and free time.

Day 8

Lo manthang to Kalopani 2530m

Drive from Lo manthang to Kagbeni to check out special permits, then drive passing Dhumba Lake and Marpha village to Kalapani at 2530 meters. (good place for mountain views, including Annapurna's north face.

Day 9

Kalopani to Pokhara 820m

After breakfast, drive to Pokhara 825m. Using the same road or passing Ghorepani/poon hill depending on road conditions up there in Ghorepani route. Free evening in Pokhara to have a rest or explore lakeside.

Day 10

Pokhara to Kathmandu 1370m

visit peace stupa and shiva statue in the morning and flight to Kathmandu as per your schedule.

Day 11

Departure

If your flight time is late afternoon or evening, you can visit some place in Kathmandu your own or if you need help, we can provide guide and vehicle on extra charge. Otherwise, be ready at hotel on time as per your flight details to catch international flight. A Representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt Ltd will arrange transportation and drop you in Tribhuvan international (TIA) airport and good bye for this time wishing safe journey back to home.
