Trip Overview

Shailung is the highest hill in the hilly region of Nepal, situated at 3145 meters above sea level on the border of Dolakha and Ramechhap districts and According to local people, shailung means a hundred hills in the Tamang language. because There are a hundred of small hills above the tree line in Shailung looking really amazing views with different colors in all four seasons.

In the winter season, all hundred hills will be mostly snow covered and the nearest popular places to see and play fresh snow from Kathmandu. The spring season is more colorful with Rhododendron flowers around the area, the monsoon season will be dramatically cloudy and full of greenery, Autumn season specially October to December is mostly open weather.

So, Shailung is one of the best places for 360-degree view including Everest region mountain range in the east to Manaslu and Annapurna range in the west. similarly, Gaurishankar and Jugal himal range are the nearest mountain range from Shailung.

Beside this, shailung is a very important place for religious purposes for both Hindus and Buddhists. Shailungeswor mahadev Temple, a natural rock door, where locals believe to go through to check their luck, print of a sword on the rock, a lot of old Chorten, the footprint of Guru Rimpoche (Guru Padmasambhava) and a big stupa on top of sailung is showing itself how important place is Shailung.

Similarly, shamanist people believe that Shailung is a very powerful holy place. Because shamanism is still very popular in Nepal and a lot of people from hilly regions still practice and believe in shamanism. It is a big and important annual event that every year during the full moon of August, hundreds of shamans with their disciples visit Shailung to prove and practice natural power.

There are two different road access to reach Sailung following Kathmandu-Nepalthok-Doramba-Kholakharka, approximately 160km driving 6–7 hours and another shorter access is Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Khadichaur-Mude-Kalapani, approximately 123 km driving 4–5 hours by private vehicle. More than 80% of the road to Kalapani is already black toped even though it is quite narrow.

Anytime between October and May, it is good to visit Shailung. But if you want to see and play fresh snow, then January – February – March is better and August fulmoon time is special for the shamanism festival.

Itineraries

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu 1370 meter

A representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt. Ltd. will heartily welcome to you in Tribhuvan international (TIA) airport 1370 meter from sea level in any time of your arrival and help you transfer to hotel at Thamel. Kathmandu is capital city of Nepal and it is normally busy during the day. It is about 15-25 minutes’ drive from airport to Thamel. It depends on your arrival time and traffic. You might have some time to explore Thamel or visit some important place in Kathmandu city and final preparation for Trekking from next day.

Day 02

Kathmandu – Kalapani 2830 meter

Tour start after having breakfast in your hotel driving following Araniko High way through Dhulikhel – Khadichaur-Mude to kalapani at 2830 meter above sea level approximately 123km driving 4–5 hours by private jeep. More than 80% of the road to Kalapani is already black toped even though it is quite narrow. You will pass through many small local places during the jeep tour where you can make short tea, lunch or photo break.

Day 3

Exploration day, hike to Shailung 3145 meter

It’s nice to wake up early in the morning to see the sunrise from your hotel area and enjoy the morning view around is absolutely amazing. Today you will be free and have enough time to explore Shailung, visiting Mahadev Temple, the print of a sword on the rock, the footprint of Guru Rimpoche, the navel of the earth, old chortens, stupa, cow and tiger rock with a magnificent 360 view from the top of Shailung. it is about 315 meter ascend from Kalapani to top of the Shailung or Shailung view tower.

Day 4

Kalapani - Kuri village 3200 meter

Today’s journey is another special day to visit Dolakha Bhimeswor or Dolakha Bhimsen Temple. This is one of the most popular temples with a strong belief among the locals that when a statue gets sweet on its face, it means there will be big unexpected changes in political or some disasters in the country. Another interesting belief is that Bhimsen changes into two other gods during the day. After this, the tour continues up to Kuri village, about 3200 meters, for overnight.

Day 5

Kuri - Kalinchowk Temple - Nagarkot 2195 meter

Kuri village to Kalinchowk Bhagawati temple is about one hour's walk ascending more than 600 meters or there is a cable car option to go up and down. Kalinchowk bhagawati temple is a popular goddess bhagawati temple located at 3842 meters above sea level on top of the hill. You will have 360 views from Kalinchowk Bhagawati Temple. After this journey, continue driving to Nagarkot 2195 meters in nicer accommodation after a few days’ jeep drive.

Day 6

Nagarkot - Kathmandu 1370 meter

wake up early for sunrise or Start the day in no rush, check out of your hotel after breakfast anytime before 11 AM or short explore around then few hours’ drive back to Kathmandu to end the tour.

Day 7

Departure

If your flight time is late afternoon or evening, you can visit some place in Kathmandu your own or if you need help, we can provide guide and vehicle on extra charge. Otherwise, be ready at hotel on time as per your flight details to catch international flight. A Representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt Ltd will arrange transportation and drop you in Tribhuvan international (TIA) airport and good bye for this time wishing safe journey back to home.
