Trip Overview

API base camp trek is a virgin trail lies in Darchula district inside API Nampa conservation of far western Nepal and these 14 days API base camp trek plan offers golden opportunity to explore hidden beauties of API Nampa valley with seasonal flowers including Rhododendron flower (National flower of Nepal) in spring season, green vegetation, wildlife, different species of birds including Koklass pheasant and Himalayan Monal (National bird of Nepal), beautiful landscape and Chameliya River which start from bottom of API Himal 7132m with its healing sounds during few days trek.

Similarly, the Api base camp program covers important heritage sites in Kathmandu, local culture, people’s daily life from crowded Kathmandu city to Dhangadi, the southern part of Nepal near the border with India and the remote village of Darchula in the far western part of Nepal.
This remote and unique API base camp trek starts arriving in Tribhuvan international airport in Kathmandu at 1370 meters, then fly to Dhangadi airport at 210 meters and jeep drive up to Makarigad at 1455 meters, then trek up to API base camp 3900 meters. That’s the last tea house to sleep for overnight. But, Rindepani Tal 4280 meters, view point 4200 meters and Kaldhunga Tal 4200 meters are beautiful hiking destinations from API base camp.

Itineraries

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu

A representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt. Ltd. will heartily welcome to you in Tribhuvan international (TIA) airport 1370 meter from sea level in any time of your arrival and help you transfer to hotel at Thamel. Kathmandu is capital city of Nepal and it is normally busy during the day. It is about 15-25 minutes’ drive from airport to Thamel. It depends on your arrival time and traffic. You might have some time to explore Thamel or visit some important place in Kathmandu city and final preparation for Trekking from next day.

Day 02

Kathmandu to Dhangadi

Visit Swoyambhunath and Boudhanath is Nepal’s most significant Buddhist stupas, deeply rooted in history and spirituality. Swoyambhunath, dating back to at least the 5th century CE, is believed to have emerged as a self-existent flame from a lotus in a primordial lake, later drained by Bodhisattva Manjushri to create the Kathmandu Valley. Fly to Dhangadi 210m in the afternoon and overnight there.

Day 3

Dhangadi to Gokuleswor

After breakfast, the drive starts from Dhangadi, passing through Atariya, Godawori, part of Doti, Dadeldhura and Baitadi district to Gokuleswor bazzar 690-meter crossing bridge above chameliya river the border between Baitadi and Darchula district. It is almost a 260 km drive from Dhangadi to Gokuleswor bazzar, a very small town located near the bank of chameliya River.

Day 4

Gokuleswor to Ghusa village

Gokuleswor to Makarigad is about 55km drive by local sharing jeep or local private jeep drive through off road takes about 3 hours then finally trek start following off road to cross chameliya river near bogara. As soon as crossing river the trail continues few hundred-meter step up hill to reach Ghusa village at 2240 meter located in mountain slope.

Day 5

Ghusa village to Chhirchhire

Trek from Ghusa to Chhirchhire is amazing hiking enjoying chameliya river valley, deep gorge, Laligurash mountain range including Nampa and jethi Buhari peak. Trek continues through siti village downhill to Khayakot where Api Nampa conservation is situated just other side of Chameliya river. Khayakot is good place to make lunch break then trail gradually uphill walking in mixed forest following Chameliya river bank all the way to Chhirchhire 2610 meter with just one tea house.

Day 6

Chhirchhire to Dhauli Odar

Trek starts from Chhirchhire continue following chameliya river upward passing through Simar, Domal and Bhalle Khola to reach Dhauli Odar 3450 meter. It takes about 4-5 hours gradual uphill trek walking through mixed forest and today is chance to see first view of API Himal in clear weather after starting trek.

Day 7

Dhauli Odar to Api base camp

Dhauli Odar to Api base camp is short trek ascending 550 meters normally takes 2-3 hours which can complete before lunch time. Today’s trek is gradually uphill enjoying green valley and magnificent view of Api Nampa Range all the way to reach Api base camp and whole afternoon is free to explore around or take rest and still enjoy the view from tea house.

Day 8

Api base camp to Dhauli Odar

Make few hours round trek to kaldhunga Tal 4200m (Tal means Lake) ascending and descending 300m back to Api base camp before lunch and back to Dhauli Odar for overnight stay.

Day 9

Dhauli Odar to Siti village

Dhauli Odar to Siti village is almost 1410m descending and few hundred meter ascending trek through same way back roughly takes 5-6 hours depends on walking speed.

Day 10

Siti village to Gokuleswor

Trek from Siti village to Makarigad is more than 800-meter descending takes 4-5 hours then local jeep drive back to Gokuleswor another 3 hours.

Day 11

Gokuleswor to Dhangadi

Drive back from Gokuleswor to Dhangadi 210m passing through many small villages, descending and ascending in narrow road but 95% road is blacktop. Dhangadi temperature is normally hot.

Day 12

Dhangadi to Kathmandu

There is only few airlines operate flight from Dhangadi to Kathmandu and it’s about one hours.

Day 13

Back to home

If your flight time is late afternoon or evening, you can visit some place in Kathmandu your own or if you need help, we can provide guide and vehicle on extra charge. Otherwise, be ready at hotel on time as per your flight details to catch international flight. A Representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt Ltd will arrange transportation and drop you in Tribhuvan international (TIA) airport and good bye for this time wishing safe journey back to home.

Api base camp trek is medium hard.

The highest altitude in Api base camp trek is 4200 meters.

Normally, 5-7 hours walk every day in trek.

very basic home stay, simple accommodation and sharing room in Api base camp trek.

There is no snow all the time.

March to May and October to December is the best time to go Annapurna base camp trek.

Api base camp is worth for view.
