Trip Overview
The Tiji festival is one of the most important and biggest annual events they have been celebrating every year on month of May since early seventeenth century in Lo Manthang with lots of locals from around upper Mustang and other districts as well. tiji festival has very long connection with Tibetan Buddhism and they celebrate tiji festival on the occasion of victory of god over evil. after upper Mustang opened for foreign trekkers in 1992 with a special permit of UDS 500 for the first ten days and USD 50 each day. A lot of trekkers from many countries visit Lo Manthang during the tiji festival every year.
The Tiji festival dates for 2025 are 24th May to 26th May 2025. The fixed departure date for Tiji Festival 2025 is 19th May 2025, starting from Kathmandu. Similarly, Tiji festival date 2026, Tiji festival date 2027 and Tiji festival 2028 dates can be fixed as per the new lunar calendar.

Itineraries
Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu
A representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt Ltd will heartedly welcome you at Tribhuvan International (TIA) airport, 1370 meters from sea level, at any time of your arrival and help you transfer to your hotel in Thamel. Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal, and it is normally busy during the day. It is about 15–25 minutes’ drive from the airport to Thamel. It depends on your arrival time and traffic. You might have a short time to visit some place in Kathmandu and final preparation for the trip the next day.
Day 02

Sightseeing in Kathmandu
Today is preparation for the Upper Mustang trek especially. We have submitted a Nepal visa with an original passport to the immigration office to get an upper mustang special permit. After breakfast, you can visit two popular places, BAUDHANATH STUPA and PASUPATINATH TEMPLE in Kathmandu and prepare for the trek.
Day 3

Kathmandu to Pokhara
After breakfast in your hotel, you will start your journey to Pokhara 820 meters as per planned. It takes about 6–8 hours by tourist bus or private vehicle to reach Pokhara. It depends on road conditions and traffic. Even Kathmandu to Pokhara is just a 200 km in road distance. All the tourist buses leave at 7 am from nearby Thamel. Flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara take about 25 minutes and flights are available from 8:30 AM onwards the whole day by a few different domestic airlines. Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist places in Nepal. There are some nice places to visit in Pokhara if you have free time. Panoramic views of the Hole Annapurna Range, Fishtail, and Lamjung Himal are visible from your hotel at the lakeside.
Day 4

Pokhara - Jomsom - Kagbeni
Pokhata to Jomsom flights start in the early morning every day due to strong wind blowing in the Jomsom valley from early afternoon. So, be ready at the mentioned time in your hotel, either eat a hot breakfast or take packing depending on your flight time. Even though the airport is not far from the hotel, you have to be there one hour before flight time. The Pokhara to Jomsom flight is about 20 minutes. You will have a beautiful view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges on this short flight. Jomsom airport is 2743 meters above sea level. We will meet our hiking staff in Jomsom and then start the trek to Kagbeni, following the Kaligandaki River valley for 10.6 km, taking roughly 3–4 hours. Kagbeni is 2804 meters above sea level.
Day 5

Kagbeni to Chele
After breakfast in the lodge, we had to show our mustang special hiking permit and Annapurna conservation receipt at the checkpoint, then enter the upper mustang, walking through the Kaligandaki River valley all the way to Chhuksang, where we might take a lunch break. From Chhuksang to Chele is just 1 hour’s trek, crossing the Kaligandak River just before Chele. Kagbeni to Chele is approximately 15 km from Kagbeni in trek distance and is situated at 3100 meters from sea level. The total trek time from Kagbeni to Chele is 5–6 hours.
Day 6

Chele to Ghiling
Chele to Ghiling is quite a tough and beautiful trek through Chungsi cave, ascending about 900 meters and descending a few hundred meters as well. Normally, you will reach Syangbuchen in the late afternoon for a hot lunch and trek to Ghiling for another 1:30 hours. Ghiling village is 3570 tall at sea level and the distance from Chele to Ghiling is 18.4 km.
Day 7

Ghiling to Dhakmar
The trek starts gradually uphill from Ghiling all the way to Nyi La, passing 4010 meters and descending 490 meters to Ghami village 3520 meters. After the lunch break at Ghami, the trek starts uphill towards Dhakmar at 3820 meters. Ghiling to Dhakmar is 13.2 km in trekking distance and the average time is 6–7 hours.
Day 8

Dhakmar to Lo-Manthang, Tiji festival opening day in the afternoon
The trek starts in Dhakmar, walking uphill along a narrow path to the top of Mui la pass 4170 meters and trekking to Ghar Gumba 3950 meters. After Ghar Gumba trek, continue towards Choku La pass 4298 meters, then descend to Lo Manthang village, also popular as a walled city. Lo Manthang is situated at an altitude of 3810 meters above sea level. Dhakmar to Lo Manthang via Ghar Gumba and Cho Ku La Pass is 16 km. The trekking time from Dhakmar to Lo Manthang is 5–7 hours depending on walking peace ascending 478 meters and descending 488 meters. The Tiji festival normally starts at 2 pm. So, start your trek early in the morning and try to reach it before 2 pm.
Day 9

Exploration, tiji festival in the afternoon
There are a lot of interesting places to visit around Lo Manthang. Today’s program tried to cover the most important places by going to Choser cave, exploring a few monasteries around before lunch and driving back to Lo Manthang for lunch and visiting three important monasteries in the walled city and look round if you have more time in the afternoon.
Day 10

Tiji festival final day, late afternoon from Lo Manthang – Jomsom Jeep drive
Explore around Lo Manthang in the morning and enjoy the Tiji Festival's final day ceremony finish around 2/3 pm and drive back to jomsom. It is your last day of the upper mustang trek with your guide and porter. So, if you want, you can offer them dinner and a good celebration.
Day 11

Jomsom to Pokhara
Jomsom to Pokhara flights operate from early morning because after 10 am it is quite strong windy each day. So, most of the flights are before 10 am. The Jomsom to Pokhara flight offers you magnificent views of the Annapurna range on your left side and Dhaulagiri range on your right side. The Jomsom to Pokhara flight is just 25 minutes and the whole afternoon is free to take a rest or explore the lakeside, Pokhara.
Day 12

Pokhara to Kathmandu
You can have breakfast as program and be ready to get back to Kathmandu on time as per planned, drive 6–8 hours or fly 25 minutes.
Day 13

Back to home country
If your flight time is late afternoon or evening, you can visit some place in Kathmandu on your own or, if you need help, we can provide a guide and vehicle at an extra charge. Otherwise, be ready at the hotel on time as per your flight details to catch an international flight. A representative from Guide for Nepal Pvt Ltd will arrange transportation and drop you off at Tribhuvan International (TIA) airport and goodbye to this time, wishing you a safe journey back to your home country.
